THESE BROKEN STARS

These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1)

BLUE LAGOON MEETS SCI-FI

The Icarus is a cruise liner of a space ship that carries on board 50,000 people. On board the Icarus is Tarver Merendsen who is a very young Major, and Lilac whose father is the richest man in the universe and owner of the Icarus. Suddenly the ship goes down and Tarver and Lilac find themselves alive on a deserted planet.

Two people of very opposite backgrounds are suddenly thrown together in this amazing tale.
I really liked this book so much. It was a mixture of the Blue Lagoon and Star Trek, but the combination makes it a great read. I encourage teens and adults alike to read this book

This book was truly captivating and I couldn't put it down. It was so well written and there was never a dull spot in the entire book. I love sci-fi and I love romance and this book has both.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

RELIC

Relic (Books of Eva, #1)

The polar caps have melted due to what I assume was global warming and now an Ice Age has taken over the planet. The  survivors have attributed the Deluge that came upon the planet to over abuse of materialism and pollution. Hence, they viewed the water deluge of the planet as a cleansing of all badness and the survivors as the chosen ones who are the new caretakers of this planet. They must make sure that this type of catasrophy never happens again. The planet is now run by a group of people who have passed a Testing in order to become one of the planets Archons or leaders. This Testing is a gruelling test of survival of the elements and the finding of Relics.

Eva is a powerful young woman who has chosen to replace her brother in the Testing. Her brother Eammon has died in the Ring as he was preparing for the Testing, but was his death an accident?
During the testing Eva must undergoes a grueling series of tests against harsh elements in an ice world. Her final part of this Testing is to find a RELIC, and her RELIC is quite a find.

At first I found it difficult to take this book seriously, since they denounce the worship of the god Apple, Tylenol, Coke and Mastercard. I know it sounds funny, but once you get into the book you will find out why these are seriously forbidden.

The book has a great climax and I really loved it, but the ending was not well executed. It left me with such a confused feeling as if the story wasn't quite finished and I kept searching the last few pages over and over for the ending. All in all I liked the book very much and I look forward to reading the next Book of Eva.

INVISIBILITY

Invisibility

INVISIBILITY
by Andrea Cremer & David Levithan

PUBLISHER: Philomel
RELEASE DATE:  May 7, 2013
PAGES: Hardcover 320

This book is not my usual norm, but once I got into the story I really liked it!  It has a lot of great elements, a girl Elizabeth, a guy Stephen, a lovable sidekick by the name of Laurie who happens to be Elizabeth's brother and of course a villain who just happens to be Stephen's grandfather.  There were some things about this book that I didn't care for, but overall I really liked this book.

Stephen was born invisible all because of his grandfather. Grandpa was not a nice man and as a result an argument between Stephens mother and her father ensues.  I'm sure many of you out there can relate to family relationships that aren't always good.  But this one, well it was a doozie! The end result being that Stephen was born invisible.

One day Stephen, the invisible boy, meets a girl who can actually see him and they fall in love.  Of course having an invisible boyfriend can be a downfall, but love can overcome anything right?  Being invisible should be cool, like being a superhero or something, but sadly it isn't cool.  It's heartbreaking!  There is an element of sadness to this story, but if anyone has ever wished they were invisible, well, they will think twice about it after reading this story.

So what can this brave couple do to make Stephen visible again?  It is even possible?  How can Elizabeth help?  Surely there is a reason as to why only she can see him.  Things get really tricky and dangerous but can love conquer all?  I suggest you read this story to find out and I hope you like it as much as I do!  I give this book 4 out of 5 exclamation points.

Beyond All Measure

Beyond All Measure (Hickory Ridge Romance #1)
BEYOND ALL MEASURE
BY DOROTHY LOVE

Miss Ada Wentworth has fallen upon hard times so she agrees to come out to Hickory Ridge as a companion to Miss Lillian.  But the job isn't exactly what she was expecting. No one told her she was going to have to cook and clean for the lady.  Being a Bostonian and coming from a better life, she is unhappy with her circumstances in life.  Wyatt Caldwell is a loving, kind man who has hired Ada to care for his aunt Lillian.  He takes a liking to Ada right from the start and courts her.  But things in Hickory Ridge are not all as they should be.  The setting takes place not long after the Civil War and there are some KKK members around causing trouble.

While I loved the characters of Wyatt Caldwell and his feisty aunt Lillian, I was sadly disappointed in the character of Miss Ada Wentworth.  She seemed a tad bit spoiled and pig headed and didn't seem to know a good thing when she saw it.  But Ada had her good side to her in that she befriends a young orphan girl by the name of Sophie.  I did not see Ada as a good match for Wyatt, but I do think this was a good book. Therefore I give this book only 2 out of 5 exclamation points.  Hope my review of this book was helpful.
